David Mahlmann – Director of Photography

David has worked on numerous projects throughout his career including studio features, independent films, commercials, industrials and documentaries. He attended Columbia College Chicago where he studied the art of filmmaking and cinematography. He enhanced his cinematography studies at the Rockport Maine Workshop under the tutelage of renowned DoP Peter James, ASC, ACS.

David began his career in lighting and from there worked his way into the camera department. After several years as an experienced camera assistant he moved up to full time cameraman.  His work experience has enabled him the opportunity to work along side prominent cinematographers such as Peter Biziou, BSC, Bill Butler ASC, Albert Maysles, ASC and Janusz Kaminski, ASC. His recent work has included such projects as “Six Feet Under”, “Woman’s Murder Club”, “Knight Rider”, “Ghost Whisperer” and the Project Green Light feature “Stolen Summer,” produced by HBO.

David lives in Los Angeles with his wife where they are both active in the production community. He is a member Local 600 and currently serves on the board as vice president of Society of Camera Operators. He is strong supporter of trade organizations and equipment vendors that generate the tools and innovations for the advancement of the cinematography craft.
